A new Parent Resource Center is set to open its doors at Refugio High School on Monday, Sept. 13.

Six parents have signed up for the technology class, which is six short of the number need to hold the class.

“The intention of the center is to provide parents, students, and community members with a way to connect and share information, talents, and resources,” said Lisa Herring, center coordinator.

The center will offer trainings for both students and parents on a variety of topics including choosing a college, test taking strategies, financial aid, and computer skills. The center will be located in the High School building and will be open every Monday and Wednesday from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Parents and community members are invited to come to the center to use the computers, check out the job board, get help with applications and resumes, and enjoy the collection of parenting resources available.

“In addition to the Parent Resource Center, we are thrilled to offer a seven-week course on internet marketing skills,” Herring said.

The Internet marketing skills begin on Sept. 13, and will end on Oct. 25. This course will be taught by an instructor from Corpus Christi and will be provided to 12 parents or community members free of charge.

“We are hoping to be able to offer parents a resource for improving marketable job skills,” Herring said.

Refugio ISD will have all materials, software, and computers needed for participation, all you need is basic computer skills and to be present from 5:30-7:30 each Monday from Sept. 13 to Oct. 25.

Participants will learn how to create websites and how to use this skill to generate income while working from home. This course will be limited to 12 participants selected on a first come, first served basis.
