Gertrude Schilling, 88, passed peacefully at Live Oak Nursing Home October 20, 2010. She was born August 27, 1922, to Hugo and Minnie Jostes Engler. The Englers settled in Live Oak County in the Argenta Community. The original homestead and farm is still in the family.

Gertrude was a loving daughter and sister to her parents and three sisters and two brothers, who preceded her in death. Her husband, Richard, passed in December 1988. She is survived by her son Stanley (Holly) of George West, and her grandson, Beau (Dr. Bethany) Schilling of Bastrop, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Gertrude married Richard Schilling in December of 1946. They made their home in south Live Oak County. Gertrude was a homemaker and also a bookkeeper for the family home building business in Mathis, Texas.

Visitation with the family was held on October 22, from 5-6 p.m. at the Dobie Funeral Home. Funeral services were held October 23, at 10 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Tynan. Interment followed at Waldheim Cemetery in Tynan.

Pallbearers were Ray Brown, Clarence Chopelas, Jim Massey, Jimmy Mauch, Lonnie Messer, and Thomas Smith. The music before the service was a CD of Lawerence Welk songs, compiled by Roger and Lynn Hennig. Tom Engler played the organ for the service. Mr. Willie Spreen performed the service, at Gertrude’s request.
