Art enthusiasts are invited to an original show by Beeville’s Emily Hartley Saturday at the Wicker Basket from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Hartley went into the store to ask about framing. The owner liked her work so much, she was offered the opportunity for a show.

Hartley, who ran her own mural business in Oklahoma City, will be exhibiting her canvas paintings for the first time.

“I never knew if my work was fine enough for canvas, but I’ve had good response,” said Hartley.

The artist has had no professional training. She began painting murals by creating one for a wall in her son’s bedroom.

When visitors saw the mural, they asked her to do one for them. Before long, it was a full-blown business. Hartley has painted murals in homes, day cares and churches.

Since returning to Beeville, the artist has been painting on canvas as a hobby.

Saturday’s show will feature originals on canvas as well as prints for sale. Hartley also will bring her portfolio of mural work for interested patrons.
