Fina was born in Victoria, Texas to R.D. and Lillie Hernandez Zepeda on June 6, 1943. She graduated from Nazareth Academy in 1961 ,and attended Texas Womens University in Denton, Texas. On August 24, 1968, she married Juventino “J.J.” Perez. They were married for 39 years, he preceded her in death on January 31, and 2008.
They moved to Beeville 1974, and raised their family there. Fina was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She taught school at St. Joseph’s Parochial School from 1976-1980. She taught math to 5th-8th graders. She was instrumental in forming a good physical education program for the school forming a stunts and tumbling class that preformed for local civic organizations. In 1980, she started to work for Beeville Independent School District till 2001, when she retired. While with BISD, Fina was a cheerleader and Drill Team sponsor for about four years. She could not stay away from BISD, and so she went to work on a part time basis until her passing. She was very active in her community. She served as presiding judge in both local and presidential elections. She will be remembered for her sense of humor and her ability to make people laugh.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two sisters, Aurora Hinojosa from Kingsville and Irene Lopez from Corpus Christi.
She is survived by a son, J.J. Perez and wife Suzanne of Beeville; a daughter, Priscilla Lerma and husband John David of Kingsville; and the loves of her life - her two grandsons, Joshua J. Perez, and Mathayus “Matt” Perez, both of Beeville; two brothers, Ernest Zepeda and wife Mary Ann of Victoria, Texas and Matt Zepeda and wife Joyce of Round Rock, Texas.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at Angelus Funeral Home in Beeville Texas from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. A rosary was recited that evening at 7 o’clock.
A funeral mass to celebrate Fina’s life was held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, November 10, 2010, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment followed at Our Lady of Victory Cemetery #2.
Pallbearers were Joshua J. Perez, Mathayus Perez, David Hinojosa, Arnold Lopez, Lupe Gonzales, Orlando Zepeda and Mark Zepeda.
