Dorothy Wojtasczyk Smith, at age 75, passed away after battling cancer for a little over a year. She was very well respected to all who knew her and a very caring, loving woman to all she encountered.
She was born November 30, 1935, in George West, TX to the late John A. Wojtasczyk and Susie Bednorz Wojtasczyk. Dorothy married C. Hershel Smith, of Three Rivers, TX, in July 1965, where they had three children and two children together. Dorothy was a woman with great morals and wonderful values that she instilled in her family. She was a member of St. George Catholic Church of George West.
She is preceded in death by her father, John A. Wojtasczyk; her mother, Susie Bednorz Wojtasczyk; and brothers, Robert “Bobby” Wojtasczyk and Ernest Wojtasczyk.
Survivors include her loving husband of 45 years, C. Hershel Smith of Three Rivers; three sons, Randy (Shirley) Smith of George West, TX, Charles H. (Deanna) Smith Jr. of Frisco, TX, and David W. (Rene) Smith Sr. of George West, TX; two stepsons, Jay L. (Marilyn) Smith of Brooksmith, TX, and Tom W. Walters III of Austin, TX; one stepdaughter, Janet L. Smith (Gary) Martin of Floresville, TX; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; two sisters, Teresa Holland of Beeville, TX, and Betty Paine of Greely, CO; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Thursday, December 2, 2010, from 5 to 9 p.m. at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home in Three Rivers, TX. Visitation continued on Friday, December 3, 2010 from 6 to 9 p.m. at St. George Catholic Church in George West, TX. A rosary was recited there that evening at 7 p.m.
A funeral Mass to celebrate Dorothy’s life was held on Saturday, December 4, 2010, at 11 a.m. at St. George Catholic Church with Father Eddie Garcia officiating. Interment followed in the Three Rivers Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Christopher Smith, Bryan Smith, Nicholas Smith, Matthew Smith, David Smith Jr. and Bradley Smith. Honorary pallbearers were Michelle Smith, Jayson Smith, Jasmyn Smith, Kyle Smith, Kristina Smith Westphal, Merlin Martin, Christopher Martin and Tommy Joe Humphrey.
The Smith Family would like to give special thanks to all of the Exclusive Hospice nurses who participated in the caring of our loved one. We would also like to include Dorothy’s “Neighbor Lady,” Rene Tishler Smith, for staying by her bedside during her time of need.
