She drives herself to the women’s gym about three miles from her home; she’s a regular there, as evidenced by her name on the 600 plus visits chart.
“I don’t go if I’m snowed in or if I’m not feeling well,” she explained. “But I feel so much better when I go that I try to make it three times a week.”
The birthday celebration continued at Tequila’s Mexican Restaurant, overlooking the famous mineral springs which give the town its name. The dinner party included Margaret’s son and his wife, Jan, and stepdaughter, Kay Past, who flew to Colorado for the occasion and her annual visit.
Next on the agenda was a long drive through the mountains north of Pagosa Springs, with spectacular views of snow-covered peaks in the distance and close-up snow on the mountain-shaded sides of the road.
The spry nonagenarian is an avid reader who also sews, quilts, gardens, cooks and writes letters to friends and family members.
“She’s our inspiration and role model,” Mrs. Past said.
