Ruby Mixon, 93, of Pawnee, died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011, in Kenedy.

Mrs. Mixon was born March 31, 1917, in Skidmore to Ruth (McMurray) and Tom S. Yeater. She married Martin Mixon on Oct. 12, 1940. She was a housewife and a member of Pawnee Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Tom S. and Ruth Yeater; her husband, Martin Mixon, on May 10, 1987; a sister, Lucille Smith; three brothers, Bobby, Roy and J.T. Yeater; and a grandson, Troy Rudolph.

Survivors include a daughter, Gay Mixon of Karnes City; a son, Larry (Christine) Mixon of Kenedy; two grandsons, Kirk Mixon of Atlanta and Mark Mixon of Chicago; three sisters, Nell Turnipseed of Kenedy, Joyce Sutton of Portland and Wilma Lindeman of Sinton; and six great-grandchildren.

The family received friends at Eckols chapel in Kenedy from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday.

The funeral service was conducted there at 10 o’clock Monday morning with Rev. James Howard officiating. Burial followed in Pawnee Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Lee Hext, Louis Muñoz, Brad Yeater, Brian Turnipseed, Dennis Lindeman, Roger Overby, Jimmy Sutton and Gale Ponish.

Honorary pallbearers were Johnny Davidson and Lacy Pogue.

Memorial donations may be made to the South Texas Children’s Home or the charity of one’s choice.

Arrangements were under the direction of Eckols Funeral Home, Kenedy.
