Lionel Ybañez, 54, of Corpus Christi, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011.

He was born to Emilio Ybañez and Martina (Barrera) Ybañez on Nov. 24, 1956, in Three Rivers. He was a high school graduate and served in the U.S. Navy. He was an OSHA instructor and inspector for several refineries and was a member of the Catholic church.

He was preceded in death by his father, Emilio Ybañez; and a brother, Jose M. Lopez.

Survivors include his mother, Martina Ybañez of Corpus Christi; two sisters, Cristina Acosta and Estella Nejeres, both of Corpus Christi; two brothers, Gabriel Lopez of Houston and Miguel Ybañez of Corpus Christi; and numerous other family members and friends.

Visitation will be held Thursday from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Galloway & Sons Chapel in George West.

A rosary will be recited at 7 o’clock that evening at St. Peter Catholic Church in Corpus Christi.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Friday at St. George Catholic Church in George West with Father Ryszard Zielinski officiating. Burial will follow in the St. George Cemetery in George West.

Pallbearers will be Gabriel Lopez, Miguel Ybañez, Benjamin Tipton, Allen McDonald, Ryan Flores and Leroy Flores.
