Mr. Gonzales was born Feb. 19, 1956, in Mathis to Victoria and Oscar Gonzales. He married Enednina Reyes in McKinney on June 11, 1975, and was a Catholic. He was a corrections officer for 16 years and a Bee County jailer for five years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Victoria Gonzales; his adoptive parents, Jose Manuel and Candelaria Gonzales; and a sister, Margarita Peña.
Survivors include his wife, Enednina R. Gonzales of Beeville; two sons, Manuel Gonzales III of Mathis and Angel Gonzales of Corpus Christi; two daughters, Christine Gonzales of Corpus Christi and Consuelo Gonzales of Beeville; eight grandchildren, Alexis and Darin Cuellar, Noemi, Alia, Kyle, Kristopher, Jennifer and Angelica Gonzales; two brothers, Geronimo Castaneda Jr. of Mission and Oscar Gonzales of Driscoll; eight sisters, Candelaria Castaneda of Mathis, Viola Rodriguez of Mathis, Sylvia Ramirez, Linda Sanchez and Rosa Sanchez, all of McAllen, Ofelia Peña of Michigan, Victoria Luna of Viginia and Angelica Ostos of Georgia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Angelus Funeral Home. A rosary was recited there that evening at 7 o’clock.
The funeral Mass was conducted Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Eddie Garcia officiating. Burial followed in Descanso Eterno Cemetery #2 in Mathis.
Pallbearers were Angel Gonzales, Manuel Gonzales III, Henry Barajas, Carlos Monday, Juan Reyes and Jessie “Cheuy” Reyes.
