The highlight of the evening was the performance of La Hermosa Baptist Church of Skidmore. They played and sang gospel Spanish/conjunto songs with translations. Other performers were Al Hoelscher of Normanna (guitar), Lynn Broadway of Pettus (guitar), Jack Glover of Utopia (standup bass) and Gretchen Terry of Tuleta (autoharp). Piano pounders included Rox Cox of Pettus and Ellen Pruitt of Aransas Pass.
Finger food, coffee and punch were served during the intermission. The JAM session lasted for two hours and, close to the end of the session, little Miss Juliana Constante (age 5) delighted listeners by singing “Jesus Loves Me.” The JAM session closed with everyone singing “God Bless America.”
Future JAMs will be held on the second Saturday every month at the Mineral Baptist Church from 6 to 8 p.m. or until the last song is sung. Seating capacity is 135. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early.
