Mr. Lander Robert Blackwell Jr. was called into the gate of Heaven on May 5, 2011, at the age of 72. Mr. Blackwell was born on Feb. 21, 1939, in Pettus, Texas, to the late Lander Robert Blackwell Sr. and Missouri Beasley Blackwell. He was also preceded in death by his son, Morris Blackwell. Lander enjoyed playing dominoes, cards and, most of all, he enjoyed spending quality time with his family and friends. Mr. Blackwell was a contractor for the United States Postal Service.

He is survived by his loving wife, Clara Blackwell of Beeville, Texas; one daughter, Phyllis Renee Walker (Glenn) of Corpus Christi, Texas; four grandchildren, Derek Blackwell, Shana Walker, Drew Walker and Faith Walker; and one great-grandchild, Skylar Walker.

Visitation was held on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. till 5:00 p.m. and Sunday from 1:00 p.m. till 5:00 p.m. The funeral service was held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the Treviño Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Eric R. Tarver officiating. Burial followed at the St. Rose Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Edward Ousley, Darin Ousley, Jeffrey Moore, Lionel Hodge, Mitchell Smith and Ray Rebo Mayberry. Honorary pallbearers were Carl O’Riley, George McCarty, Nance Beasley, Charles Love, Jesse Robinson, Shedric Lewis, Sonny Villarreal and Luis Banda.
