Mr. Toliver was born on April 19, 1939, in Beeville to the late Oscar Toliver Sr. and Mary J. Beasley. He graduated from A.C. Jones High School and retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years of service. He also served as the Veterans Service Community Affairs Veteran’s Service Officer and was a member of the Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, serving as a deacon, BTU director and Sunday school teacher. He attained the following achievements while a member of the USAF: USAF Outstanding Unit Award, Good Conduct Medal w/20LC, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Small Arms Marksmanship Ribbon (Expert), Air Force Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Award w/1 BR OLC.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly J. Toliver of Beeville; one daughter, Jacqueline L. Moreno; two sons, Vincent S. Toliver and Oscar S. Toliver III, all of Providence, R.I.; three stepsons, Edward Arnez Ousley of Goliad, Lonnie D. Ousley of San Antonio and Stephen D. Flowers of Dallas; two step-daughters, Linda Ousley of Dallas and Lola Ousley of Houston.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 22, at Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Eric R. Tarver officiating. Burial followed at St. Rose Cemetery in Beeville with full military honors.
Pallbearers were Crystal Fields, Ariel Ousley, Kia Ousley, Anthony Fields, Gary Ousley, T.J. Lewis, Shane Walker and Michael Wade.
Honorary pallbearers were Ron Fritz, Dennis Dewitt, Eddie Williams, Archie Green, Gean Ellis, Fred Hall, Nance Beasley and Bernard Johnson.
