Ernest Jasper Shows, 91, died Monday, June 6, 2011, in Bellville.

Mr. Shows was born March 23, 1920, in Beeville to Martha (Gorman) and Barney Ernest Shows. He graduated from A. C. Jones High School in 1938, and attended junior college in Corpus Christi from 1939-40. In June 1941, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps as an aircraft engine mechanic, training at Chanute Army Air Field in Illinois. He was later stationed at Romulus Army Air Field in Michigan, where he met and married Shirley M. Hunter. At the end of WWII, he left the service as Warrant Officer Junior Grade and returned to civilian life. He resided in Michigan until June of 1949, when they moved to Houston.

He was a brick mason by trade and worked throughout the Houston area. He retired in 1985, and moved to Bellville in 1987. He enjoyed fishing, building, yard work and raising miniature horses.

He was proceeded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Lela Shows and Lucille Range.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Shirley Shows; three children, Barney (Patty) Shows, Holly (Keith) Engle and Chris (Rachel) Shows; seven grandchildren, Clint Shows, Melinda Hansell, Kathy Yeager, James Engle, Thomas Shows, Brian Shows and Makayla Shows; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Willye Fay (Shows) Hatch.

A memorial service was held Saturday at Champions Fellowship Church in Brenham.
