Mr. Gonzales was born Nov. 19, 1925, in Oakville, to Reyes and Florentina (Casas) Gonzales. He married Juanita Compos in Arizona and was a rancher and retired from 25 years in the maintenance department of Diamond Shamrock. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and on the volunteer committee of the Oakville Cemetery.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Reyes and Florentina (Casas) Gonzales; his wife, Juanita Gonzales on Oct. 7, 2007; and two brothers, Felipe Gonzales and Agapito Gonzales.
Survivors include eight children, Juanita (Armando) Ramos of Kingsville, Reyes (Janice) Gonzales of San Antonio, Mary (Robert) Esquivel of George West, Lila Peña of Three Rivers, Mary Lou Gonzales and Ysabel (Amelia) Gonzales, Jr., both of Beeville, Felipe Gonzales of Oakville and Joe (Lynn) Gonzales of Carrollton; one brother, Mike (Gloria) Gonzales of Mathis; one sister, Jovita Gonzales (Roque Aguilar) of Mathis; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, at Galloway & Sons chapel in Three Rivers.
A rosary was recited at Sacred Heart Catholic Church that evening at 7 o’clock. The funeral Mass was celebrated there Wednesday at 10 a.m. with Father George Johnson officiating. Musical selections were provided by organist Rose Burch and vocalist Fernando Cisneros. Burial followed in the Oakville Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Reyes Gonzales, Ysabel Gonzales Jr., Felipe Gonzales, Joe Gonzales, Jesse Gonzales, Matthew Esquivel, Felipe Gonzales Jr. and Joseph Peña.
Honorary pallbearers were Corey Gonzales and Jonathan Gonzales.
