John Manuel Zambrano, 57, of Houston, formally of Beeville, died Thursday, July 7, 2011.

Mr. Zambrano was born in Edna on June 19, 1955, to Juan and Teresa Ortiz Zambrano. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a general contractor.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings.

Survivors include his sons, Chris Zambrano of Katy, Jason Zambrano of Port Lavaca, John Michael Zambrano of Spring, John Robert Zambrano of Victoria and John Carlos Zambrano of Victoria; daughters, Melissa Zambrano of Houston and Melanie Ann Zambrano of Port Lavaca; 9 grandchildren; a brother, Martin Zambrano; a sister, Alice Salazar; and five other siblings.

Visitation was held Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Oaklawn Funeral Home in Edna. A rosary was recited there at 7 o’clock that evening.

The funeral service was conducted Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church. Burial followed in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Edna with a flag folding ceremony by the American Legion Post 346, Ganado. Reverend Michael Petering officiated the ceremony.

Pallbearers were his sons and his brother, Martin Zambrano.

Arrangements were under the direction of Oaklawn Funeral Home in Edna.
