Holman Massey, 93, formerly of George West, died on July 27, 2011. He was born to William Smith Massey and Leona Cooper in White City on July 24, 1918. He was a graduate of George West High School and Texas A&I at Kingsville. He married Jewel Hurley on Feb. 19, 2011, in San Antonio. He was a member of Good Shepherd Episcopal for 60 years and of Christ Episcopal in San Antonio. He was a retired Lt. Colonel of the Air Force. He was a former mayor of George West, owner of Live Oak Insurance, former vice president of First National Bank of George West, a Master Mason, Sons of American Revolution and Lions Club of George West.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lavinia Schley Massey, his parents, brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Jewel Massey of San Antonio; a daughter, Mildred Mitchmore of San Antonio; two sons Holman (Gail) Massey, Jr., of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Ed (Barb) Massey of Clareville; grandchildren, Esther (Philip) Katz of Omaha, Nebraska, William (Honey) Massey of New York City, Sarah (Eric) Atherton of Williams, AZ, Emily Mitchmore of Lubbock and Alan Massey of Philadelphia, PA; great grandchildren, Jonah and Talia Katz and Zaidee Atherton; step children, Gwen (Bob) Copeland of Kingsland, Kay Hudson of San Antonio, Ed (Jill) Etter of San Antonio, Bill (Pat) Etter of San Antonio and Charles (Susie) Etter of Georgia and numerous step-grandchildren.

Visitation was held on Thursday, July 28, from 6-8 p.m. at Galloway and Sons Chapel in George West.

Funeral service was held on Friday, July 29, at 10:30 a.m. at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in George West. Burial followed at George West Cemetery in George West.

Memorial service was held on Saturday, July 30, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in San Antonio at 9:30 a.m.

Active pallbearers were Lamon Bennett, Bobby Schneider, Travis Martin, Dwayne McWilliams, Alan Massey and Will Massey Honorary pallbearers were Tighe Brown and Walter Holmes.
