Sylvia retired from Corpus Christi Heart Hospital and Christus Spohn Shoreline Hospital in 2007, both in Corpus Christi, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Sam. Sylvia is survived by her children, Andrea & Jose D. Sylvia will be missed by her cousins, nieces, nephews, many extended family and friends and remembered for her generosity in serving others, genuine hospitality, a sense of humor and laughter and traveling.

Her stance regarding education led her standing decision to contribute to continued learning and improved medicine by donating her body to science for extensive study.

In lieu of flowers and in gratitude for the phenomenal care and support made available to Sylvia, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Holland or Evergreen Commons in Holland, Michigan. A memorial mass was held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 10, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Holland, Michigan.
