Sylvia was born in Refugio, Texas, and was one of 4 siblings born to Trinidad and Amadeo Lozano. Her career in nursing of over 40 years reflected her hard work and determination to achieve personal and academic goals; she was driven by her commitment to her children and helping others. Sylvia retired from Corpus Christi Heart Hospital and Christus Spohn Shoreline Hospital in 2007, both in Corpus Christi, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Sam. Sylvia is survived by her children, Andrea & Jose D. Mireles, Tomas & Amanda Arismendez, who reside in Holland, Angelita Wolf of Beeville, Texas, and Audelia Alisa Arismendez of Corpus Christi, Texas; grandchildren, Jose & Michelle Mireles Jr., Maricela & Jesse Garza, Monica Arismendez, Tomas Arismendez Jr. and Samantha Arismendez of Holland, Michigan, Kimberly and Melanie Wolf of Beeville, Texas; and five great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Mireya, Gabriella, Joseph of Holland and Noah of Beeville, Texas. She is also survived by the father of her children, Tomas Arismendez of Skidmore, Texas, and her two siblings, Amadeo Lozano of Alice, Texas, and Andres Lozano of West Covina, California.
Sylvia will be missed by her cousins, nieces, nephews, many extended family and friends and remembered for her generosity in serving others, genuine hospitality, a sense of humor and laughter and traveling.
Her stance regarding education led her standing decision to contribute to continued learning and improved medicine by donating her body to science for extensive study.
In lieu of flowers and in gratitude for the phenomenal care and support made available to Sylvia, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Holland or Evergreen Commons in Holland, Michigan. A memorial mass was held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 10, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Holland, Michigan.
