Ray Tindol, 85, a retired teacher and rancher of Decatur, died Thursday, Aug. 18, 2011.

Mr. Tindol was born Sept. 19, 1925, in Cadiz to Daniel and Annie Mae (Ray) Tindol. He graduated from and received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Howard Payne University. He married Eva Ray Hawkins on June 17, 1972, in Decatur.

He served in the United States Navy during World War II. Upon his return from the service, he began his teaching career, teaching math and science in Three Rivers, Pleasanton, Beeville, Callallen, Mathis, Tilden and Decatur. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Decatur.

A graveside service was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, at Oaklawn Cemetery in Decatur, with the Rev. Ken May officiating. Family received friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home.

Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Eva Ray Tindol of Decatur; a daughter, Sandy Tindol of Decatur; and a brother, Dan Tindol of Brownwood.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Neville Tindol; and a sister, Myrna Paradis.
