Beatrice “Bea” Soliz Garcia, 80, formerly of Beeville, died Thursday, Sept. 1, 2011, in Midland.

Mrs. Garcia was born in Beeville on May 31, 1931, to Juan M. Soliz and Mercedes R. Soliz. She was recognized as Mother of the Year in 1976, in Colorado City and enjoyed arts and crafts and senior volunteering.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Fidelia Soliz Salazar; and grandson, Lewis Martinez, both of Colorado City.

Survivors include two brothers, Juan Soliz of Three Rivers and Felix Soliz of San Angelo; a sister, Theresa Castillo of Colorado City; four sons, Ben S. Garcia of Texarkana, Vicente S. Garcia of Seattle, Wash., Juan S. Garcia of Grand Prairie and Edward M. Garcia of Midland; three daughters, Adelaida G. Martinez and Katherine G. Moreno, both of Midland, and Gloria G. Murillo of Colorado City; 23 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; nephews and a niece.

A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Sunday at Treviño Funeral Home.

The funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. James Catholic Church. Burial followed at San Pedro Cemetery in Clareville.

Bea earned her award of Mother of the year. She was a great mother of the old school kind. She truly will have a crown in heaven. My condolences to all the family for their great loss of her presence. Spiritually she will be in your hearts and memories.
