Mrs. Compton was born May 11, 1938, in Bryan to Virginia Howard and John Malcolm Orchard. She received a master’s degree in art and English and was a retired teacher and noted artist, winning several awards for he paintings. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and was a charity volunteer for Bee MHMR, Literacy Council and the Beeville Vineyard. She especially made sure that children received her handmade crafts and blankets.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Virginia Howard Trlica; her father, John Malcolm Orchard; and a brother, Joseph William Orchard.
Survivors include her sons, Jack R. (Laura) Compton of San Antonio and John W. Compton of Portland; a brother, John H. Orchard of Beeville; two grandsons, Eric W. Snyder and Phillip S. Teitel; and three great-granddaughters.
The funeral service was conducted Saturday at 10 a.m. at Galloway & Sons chapel with Rev. Vivian Woods officiating. Burial followed in Glenwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers were John W. Compton, Steve Orchard, Johnny Orchard, Jack R. Compton, Keith Orchard and Eric Snyder.
