Candido Vela Gonzales, 88, of Skidmore, died Thursday, Dec. 1, 2011, at his residence.

Mr. Gonzales was born Dec. 15. 1922, in Kingsville to Rafael and Teresa Vela Gonzales. He was a supervisor at Champlin Refinery in Corpus Christi for more than 30 years before retiring.

He was preceded in death by his son, David A. Gonzales.

Survivors include his wife, Josephine A. Gonzales of Skidmore; four sons, James Gonzales and Andy (Anna) Gonzales, both of Corpus Christi, Candido Gonzales Jr. of Austin and Roberto (Elida) Gonzales of Skidmore; five daughters, Mary Ann Hernandez of Houston, Melba (Gilbert) Davila of San Antonio, Rosie Gonzales of Corpus Christi, Naomi Adame of Skidmore and Martha G. (Jaime) Davila of Laredo; two brothers, Blas Gonzales of Houston and Arnulfo Gonzales of Kingsville; four sisters, Elida Canales of Corpus Christi, Maria delaRosa, Severa Fernandez and Irene Garcia, all of Houston; daughter-in-law, Dalia Gonzales of Skidmore; 36 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held Saturday, Dec. 3, at noon with the funeral service following at 1:30 p.m. that afternoon at First Baptist Church in Skidmore. Burial followed at Evergreen Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home, Sinton.
