William Dean Curtis entered into eternal life with God on February 4, 2012. He was born in Faragot, Idaho, on March 13, 1943, to Joan Lawrence Curtis and Alfred Barns Curtis.

His dad was a career military man, so they moved around a lot and saw a lot of different countries. When they moved to Alameda, California, he met his high school sweetheart, Kathleen (Kathy) Fabela.

He went into the Navy in 1961, after graduating from Alameda High School. He and Kathy married on December 9, 1967. He got out of the Navy for a few years and worked at Weyerhaeuser Container Company, then returned to the Navy to finish out his career as an aircraft maintenance mechanic.

After retiring from the Navy, he moved to Beeville, Texas, to be near his aging dad. He was very much a family man, and for him, it was about the family. There, he went to work at Lockheed and then Grumman; after those companies moved out of the area, he became a correctional officer at McConnell State Prison, where he retired after 10 years in 2003. He moved back to California to Hanford, where he remained retired.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

He will be dearly missed by his wife, Kathy and children: Carol Plank and her children, Samantha, Michael, Heather and their children, and Hailey; Victoria Curtis-Duran and husband, Charlie and children, Kristine Curtis and 3 children, Robert Powell, Eric Sass, Deidra Bredhal, Bryan, Gabreilla and Juan Carlos Duran; John Curtis and son Anthony; Sandra Curtis and children Hilary and Jeremy Carabajal and Christopher Curtis.

He was hospitalized January 19, 2012, for cirrhosis of the liver at Adventist Medical Center and then moved to Hanford Nursing and Rehabilitation on February 1, 2012, for comfort care. The family would like to thank the staff at both facilities for the care he received.

Memorial services will be held at a later date in the Bay area.

Remembrances may be made to the donor’s favorite charity.
