Ms. Simonson was born in Spencer, Iowa, on Oct. 2, 1951, to Merle and Terese Simonson. As part of a military family, she lived in Texas, California, Nebraska, Maine and Virginia before returning to Corpus Christi, where she finished high school at Mary Carroll High School. She attended Del Mar Junior College and graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a bachelor of arts degree in sociology. She then attended law school at The University of Texas at Austin, where she received her doctor of jurisprudence in 1977. Nancy initially served as an assistant attorney general in Austin before joining the Canales law firm in 1983. She remained there until her death.
She was preceded in death by her father, Merle Simonson Sr.; and her nephew, James Ehrlich.
Survivors include her mother, Terese Simonson; four brothers, Stan, John, James and Joe Simonson; three sisters, Terri Ehrlich, Jeanene Jones and Becky Simonson; two brothers-in-law, Clarke Ehrlich and Jimmie Jones; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and friends.
Visitation was held Friday, March 9, at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. A rosary was recited there at 7 o’clock that evening.
The funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Saturday, March 10, at 11 a.m. with Father Pat Donohoe officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Food for the Poor, the Food Bank of Corpus Christi, St. Mary’s Academy Charter School in Beeville, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the charity of one’s choice.
Pallbearers were her nephews, Charles Simonson, James Parker, John Simonson, Jay Jones, Jodie Biggs, Daniel Jones and James Simonson.
Alex Head was an honorary pallbearer.
