A.C. Jones High School welders recently traveled to the Richard Bouchard Fairgrounds in Robstown for the 5th annual Pipe Fitting Rodeo.

The team consisted of seven welding students: Eli Segovia, Ryan Morin, Jimmy Joe Arguijo, Clayton Tindol, Robert Morales, Jennifer Lenard and Thomas Camacho. They fabricated a four-inch pipe spool piece, as per a drawing, which was visually inspected by a team of inspectors and passed X-ray for internal integrity of the weld.

The team won first place in the pipe fitting and welding division. Thomas Camacho and Ryan Morin took the first place trophy in the plate division. The techniques and type of welding the students were doing are developing skills they could use one day in the field.

The students are currently preparing to show their skills and talents in March at the Skills USA District Competition at Victoria Community College.
