Trojan band and members earn 25 medals at UIL contest in Victoria

On Saturday, Feb. 7, the A.C. Jones High School band participated in the UIL Music Region 14 Solo & Ensemble Contest in Victoria.

In total, 22 students participated, 25 medals were awarded, and 14 students qualified to attend the state competition which will be held at the University of Texas in Austin in June.

Mr. Knowlton and Mr. Vela, the band directors, said they are extremely proud of the band’s effort in preparing and performing their music to a high standard.

The soloists who received first division rating on their solos are Kelsey Knowlton, Joshua Saldivar, Ismael Garza Front: Juan Casas, Jaimee Contreras, and A.J. Arredondo. A.J. Arrendondo, Joshua Saldivar, Jaimee Contreras, and Ismael Garza qualified for the Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest.

The trios that made a first division were Kayla Keys, Kelsey Knowlton, and Jessica Nathaniel (Flute Trio) and Kristen Coester, Marcia Gonzalez, and Victoria Alaniz (Clarinet Trio). Both trios have qualified for the Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest.
