BEEVILLE — Police in Beeville were interviewing individuals who were known to be friends of a 73-year-old Beeville man found dead in his apartment early this morning.

The victim had numerous stab wounds, “throughout his body,” said Detective Lt. Richard Cantu.

One witness said the scene in Apartment C of Building 7 at the Emma Finke Villa at 1100 E. Kennedy St. indicated an especially brutal attack on the victim.

Cantu said patrol officers were contacted sometime after 7:30 a.m. after a staff member discovered the body.

Police found what had been reported, a man lying in a pool of blood.

Texas Ranger James Bennett was called to the scene along with Cantu and detectives Art Gamez, Chris Vasquez and Matthew Miller.

“We don’t have any persons of interest yet,” Cantu said, but detectives were planning to interview a number of acquaintances of the victim.

One witness told police that he had seen a friend of the victim’s at the apartment Tuesday night but the man left after a short visit.

Neighbors heard no sounds of a fight or argument during the visit.

Cantu said there was no sign that theft was the motive for the killing. The victim’s wallet was not taken and other valuable items were left behind.

Cantu said the investigation will continue. He seemed confident that the crime will be solved.

The name of the victim is being withheld until the next of kin is notified.
