Skidmore-Tynan students only were below average in grade 3 math and grade 4 reading.
The results, says STISD Superintendent Dr. Brett Belmarez, are the result of “sustained, focused, intelligent campus leadership.”
Skidmore-Tynan Elementary Principal Emilia Dominguez says the results also are indicative of the relationship between the staff and students. “...they know that we care for them not only academically but also outside of the school setting.”
Pettus Independent School District students only were deficient in grades 6, 7 and 8 math and grade 8 science and social studies.
“I feel strongly that our...results are directly related to the high expectations placed on our students from the teachers to work harder on the...challenges that STAAR testing has brought to light,” says Brian Thompson, the Pettus superintendent of schools.
He also credits parental support, smaller class size and student-to-teacher ratios along with an after-school tutoring program.
