“Rusty”

10/12/1925-01/11/2013

Resident of Walnut Creek, CA

The world lost a unique and amazing person. “Special” falls short in describing Rusty. She passed peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Beeville, Texas, to Paul and Edith Krause. She grew up on the family farm and, as they say, you can take the girl out of Texas, but a Texan she remained.

Rusty attended Texas University for Women where she earned her BA in Advertising Design. While working for a newspaper in New Mexico, she fell head over heels for Orrie Olsen. They enjoyed nearly 50 years of marriage. Orrie’s career with Kaiser Aluminum took them all over the country before they settled in Walnut Creek in 1964.

Rusty is preceded in death by Orrie and her brothers, Paul and Alfred Sidney. She is survived by her son, Paul (Linda); daughter, Lisa; grandsons, Ryan and Patrick Stokes; and step-grandchildren, Ginger Joy, Heather Galloway and Angie Snapp; and many dear other family members.

Rusty painted beautifully throughout her life. She was an active member of the Gardens at Heather Farm, avid bridge player, gardener extraordinaire and amazing cook. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend. Ever feisty and ready for fun, Rusty was always game for adventure. Loved by the birds and animals she nurtured, the flowers she grew, the friends and family she adored, Rusty will stay in our hearts forever.
