BEEVILLE — Those looking forward to Bill Miller Bar-B-Q will have to wait.

The bid by the restaurant to purchase the old Beeville Independent School District administration building has fallen through.

“We couldn’t reach agreement on the terms of the contract,” says BISD Superintendent Dr. Sue Thomas.

Earlier this year, the board accepted a $350,000 bid from Brazos de Santos Partners of San Antonio — representing Bill Miller Bar-B-Q — for the building, which the district used from 1985 to 2011 for its administrative offices.

This was the third attempt by the San Antonio firm to buy the land and the building, according to Thomas.

BISD soon will begin a $14,000 repair of the building’s roof that was damaged by recent high winds.

Thomas says potential buyers do not understand that, because it is a public building, state law requires the district advertise each time bids are let.

“Some people just don’t want to go through the bidding process,” Thomas says.

She says the district has received a couple of additional inquiries about the property.

“We’ll sell it eventually,” she says.

Should a buyer wish to move the cedar palace, she notes, experts say that, in order for it to navigate the streets, the building will have to be divided into thirds.

According to the appraisal district, the 0.88 of an acre of land is valued at $306,660; improvements to the building pegs its value at $449,520.
