During the March 21 regular board meeting at Coastal Bend College, representatives from CBC’s nursing and dental hygiene programs provided reaffirmation status updates.

The Coastal Bend College Professional and Vocational Nursing Programs received reaffirmation from the Texas Board of Nursing; the next regularly scheduled visit is in 2018, In December 2012, the director for the LVN and RN programs retired, and as a result, CBC hired two interim program directors. The interim LVN program director is Floyd Green, and the interim RN program director is Karen Mills. For more information about the nursing programs at CBC, call (361) 354-2768.

Andrea Westmoreland, Dental Hygiene Program director, reported that the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) has reaffirmed the dental hygiene program through 2019. Westmoreland also provided updates about Perkins funding and how monies have been utilized to purchase equipment such as an automatic film processors, vacuum system, LED projectors, privacy screen, and a handheld X-ray machine. This equipment helps enhance student learning and also benefits the general public who receive services at the dental hygiene clinic or at the mobile lab that visits elementary schools. The dental hygiene program boasts a 100 percent pass rate for the national board exams for the 2011-2012 academic year. For more information about the dental hygiene program or its clinical services to the community, call (361) 354-2555.
