St. Philip’s academic meet winners named

St. Philip’s Episcopal School students participated in the Private Schools Interscholastic Association’s (PSIA) Academic District Meet on Feb. 28.

St. Philip’s Episcopal School joined 14 other private/home schools at the Private Schools Interscholastic Association’s (PSIA) Academic District Meet on Feb. 28. The 6-A district meet was held at Texas Lutheran University in Seguin with more than 300 students competing in 18 events.

This was the first year St. Philip’s participated in the PSIA meet and sent 17 students to compete in four events. They were math, prose interpretation, ready writing and spelling.

In order to place in an event, one must finish in the top six and to qualify for the state meet, he/she must finish in the top two. St. Philip’s had five ribbon winners, with one student qualifying for the state meet.

Winners were third-grader Sarah Peacock, fourth place, ready writing; fourth-grader Gunnar Chapa, fourth place, prose intepretation; fifth-graders Valerie Velasco, sixth place, prose interpretation and Jordin Perry, sixth place, ready writing; and state qualifier Lindy Swaim, sixth-grader, first place, prose interpretation.
