BEEVILLE – Coastal Bend College had two student athletes selected for a prestigious academic award, according to last week’s release from the National Junior College Athletic Association.

Connor Lewis, a men’s basketball player for the Cougars, and Amy Macias, a women’s softball player, were selected because of their academic excellence while enrolled at CBC. Both Lewis and Macias graduated from CBC in May 2013 with honors, and they will both be transferring to the University of Texas at Austin this fall.

This season, about 60,000 student-athletes competed in the NJCAA across 3,500 teams in 28 different sports. The 2012-2013 academic year marks the 30th consecutive season the NJCAA has recognized the success of its student-athletes in the classroom.

More than 1,600 NJCAA student-athletes met the requirements for individual academic honors, including 169 that earned the Pinnacle Award for Academic Excellence (4.0 GPA). Superior Academic Achievement (3.8+ GPA) honors went to 592 student-athletes and more than 900 met the standard for Exemplary Academic Achievement (3.6+ GPA).

Lewis received exemplary academic excellence while Macias received superior academic excellence from the NJCAA.
