He worked for Southern Pacific Railroad and Valero Energy. He then became self-employed in various ventures. He was the owner of Rosebud’s Auto Sales and, at the age of 21, became the youngest person in Beeville to own a night club, The Ranchers Inn. He was part owner of The Flamingo with Red Blevins, and then owned the Toot-n-Tote and Pardner’s Club. He purchased the Paradise Cove/ Rosebud’s in Corpus Christi, Tx. and the 19th Hole Patio Cantina in Beeville, which he owned for 28 years. Mr. Baird also owned RBK Stables and RBK Hauling.
He was preceded in death by his parents; by one brother, James Roger Baird and brother-in-law, Jim Billings.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Kellene H. Owen Baird of Beeville; two daughters, Stacy Inez Jones of New Braunfels, Tx. and Leslie Shae Baird of Pettus, Tx; one son, Charles Dustin Baird of Skidmore, Tx; one sister, Carol Darnell Baird (Dan Winter) Billings of Corpus Christi, Tx; sister-in-law, Janie Lowe Baird of Papalote, Tx; three grandsons, Bobby Jones, Kadin Michael Baird and Kase Aiden Lewis Baird; three granddaughters, Hailey Jones, Sarah Jones and Mikayla Barnet; five nieces, Misty June, Barbara Ruth, Billie Jo, Carol Ann and Jamie Owen; three nephews, Les Sloan, Kris (Robi) Owen and Cody Ackel; adopted moms, Virginia Cope of Beeville and Ann Coverston of Victoria, Tx.
Visitation was held from 1 pm-2:30 pm on Sunday, Nov. 3, at Oak Park Memorial Funeral Chapel. A graveside service followed at 3 pm at the Baird Ranch Cemetery, 2411 FM 1349, Bee County, Tx.
Serving as pallbearers were Ernie Ramon, Justin McCord, Stewart Wofford, Daryl Gandy, Charlie Herzog and J.R. Robling.
Honorary pallbearers were Pat Doty, Greg Peterson, Tim Homer and Larry Springer.
