Anthony Francis “Mike” McWhorter, 72, of Beeville, died Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013.

Mr. McWhorter was born Jan. 21, 1941, in Corpus Christi to Clarence Bernard and Ernez (Skaggs) McWhorter. He was a former U.S. Marine Corps Reservist and was employed as a typesetter for the Beeville Publishing Company for approximately 45 years.

He was known for his knack for perfectly timed pranks, a witty sense of humor and flair for exaggerated storytelling. He enjoyed sharing daily morning coffee, jokes and memories with his friends at The Donut Palace in Beeville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary Gay Allen; a brother, Clarence Bernard “Pat” McWhorter Jr.; a son, Bruce Busbee; nephews, William R. Stubbins Jr. and Chris John Stubbins; and best friend, Ellis Greer.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Sandra McWhorter; a son, Zane (Marty) Courbay of San Diego, Calif.; a daughter, Robin McWhorter of Pflugerville; four grandsons, David, Dustin and Bruce Busbee Jr. and Elijah Tijerina; a sister, Lee Ann Stubbins of Beeville; several nieces and nephews; and honorary daughters, Leslie, Lauren and Lacie Greer.

There will be no visitation or funeral service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Beeville Vineyard Christmas Angels.
