Swayne Marvin Yates, 82, of Cedar Park went to be with the Lord on November 27, 2013. He was born to James Swayne and Alice Buchanan Lee Yates on August 20, 1931, in Grapevine, TX.

Marvin attended Texas A&I University in Kingsville, TX where he met the love of his life, Frances Belle Kreis. They were married May 21, 1954. Marvin attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, but they moved back to Papalote, TX shortly after their oldest son was born. S.M. Yates as Marvin was often called served as a 6th Grade Teacher in Beeville for 30 years. He also served on the School Board for Skidmore-Tynan ISD. He was a lay-preacher, temporarily filling the pulpit for various Churches in the South Texas area as the need arose. S.M. was very active in the Beeville Masonic Lodge, where he held various offices. Frances and Marvin were active in the Papalote Baptist Church and the Sinton Baptist Church before they moved to Copeland in 1992. After Frances passing in 1994, Marvin was fortunate to find love again, and married Vernice Moore on August 30, 1995.

Marvin was preceded in death by both his parents, James and Alice, his step-father Ted Harrison, his beloved Frances as well as Vernice. He is survived by his sister Carol Harrison Pellow and her husband Jack of Frisco, 3 sons, 2 daughters and their families, Cliff and René Yates of Georgetown, grandson Colton, Ross Yates of Liberty Hill, Virginia Cochran of Skidmore, grandchildren Thomas, William, Jessica, Leigh and Logan, great grandson Wiley Thomas, John and Pam Yates of Dallas, grandchildren Mark, Dominic and Victoria, and Patty Yates of Corpus Christi, grandchildren Melanie and Ryan.

Pallbearers will be grandsons: Colton Yates, William and Logan Ledbetter, Mark and Dominic Yates, and Ryan Hoffman.

Visitation was held at the Beck Funeral Home, Sunday, December 1, 2013, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. Funeral services were held at New Hope First Baptist Church, Cedar Park, TX on Monday, December 2, 2013, at 10:00 am. Burial and graveside services followed at 4:00 pm in the Protestant Cemetery in Papalote, TX.
