Mr. Smith was born in Harwood on March 28, 1940, to Cleo and Dodson Smith Sr. He moved to Beeville in 1955, where he attended Lott-Canada School. He worked in construction for many years until he retired around 2002. During this time, he met and married Addie Crisp; and they had seven children.
He was preceded in death by both parents and a sister, Carolyn Smith.
Survivors include his children, Bobby Crisp, Rufus (Tennille) Smith, Charles (Soundra) Smith and Cassie (Tony) Smith, all of Stamford, and Dodson (Shannon) Smith III, Alice (Gaylon) Davis and Sharon (Dwight) Smith, all of Lubbock; 26 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Clarence Smith of Waco and Archie Smith and Mitchell Smith, both of Beeville; three sisters, Alice Farris of San Antonio and Essie Langley and Christine Smith, both of Beeville; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17, at Kinney-Underwood Funeral Home.
The funeral service was conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, at Trinity Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Wright and Rev. Jesse Hooper officiating. Burial followed in Highland Memorial Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Robert Farris, Jeremy Stinnett, Chris Bell, Jeffery Pippin, Leo Dillard, Robert Carey Jr., Jacob Bell and Robert Collins
Honorary pallbearers were Bobby Crisp, Rufus Smith, Joe Smith, Dodson Smith III, Charles Smith, Clifford Smith and Mitchell Smith Jr.
