John Nathan Campbell, 72, of George West, died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014.

Mr. Campbell was born Dec. 1, 1941, in Beeville to Dorris Frances Pugh and Charles Cecil Campbell. He attended Texas A&I University and was a rancher and retired teacher for Three Rivers ISD. He was a cowboy poet and storyteller and a member of St. George Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Bobby and Billy Campbell.

Survivors include two sons, William Cody (Mary Margaret) Campbell of George West and John Casey Campbell of Three Rivers; four grandchildren, Maggie Nicole Campbell, Darla Fay Campbell, J.Michael Sullivan and Joshua Reed Troell; one great-grandchild; and his longtime companion, Dianne Dye.

Visitation was held Thursday, Feb. 20, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home in George West. A rosary was recited at St. George Catholic Church that evening at 7 o’clock.

The funeral Mass was celebrated at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, at the church. Burial followed at Gussettville Cemetery.
