Mrs. De Leon was born Nov. 3, 1933, in Beeville. On April 12, 1954, she married Ramiro De Leon, and they raised nine children. She enjoyed gardening and cooking homemade refried beans and tortillas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ramon and Lucia Garcia; her husband, Ramiro De Leon; son, Santiago “Jimmy” De Leon; and a sister, Josefina “Chepa” Martinez.
Survivors include three sons, Ramiro (Cathy) De Leon Jr. of Victoria, Ramon De Leon of Alice and Henry De Leon of San Diego; five daughters, Delmira (Severo) Sepulveda Jr., Leticia (Joe) Soliz, Elvira (Rogelio) Hernandez, Melva De Leon and Rosalinda (Mark) Perez, all of San Diego; two step-daughters, Maria (Rudy) Montez of San Antonio and Urvana (Ernesto) Hernandez of Beeville; two brothers, Ray (Mary) Garcia of Beeville and Ramon (Lupe) Guerra of Dallas; three nephews, Severo Valdez Jr., Adrian Moreno and Abram Moreno; 20 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family members.
Visitation began Friday, March 14, at 5 p.m. at Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Home in San Diego. A rosary was recited there at 7 o’clock that evening.
The funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 15, at St. Francis De Paula Catholic Church. Burial followed at the San Diego Cemetery.
