Tenor benefit recital to be held Friday

A benefit recital with tenor Albert Garcia, accompanied by Cynthia Wilson on the piano, will be held at First United Methodist Church this Friday. The concert is free, but donations will go towards a summer opera program Garcia will be attend.

Garcia was born in Beeville and is a first-year graduate student at Texas State University, earning his degree in vocal performance and studying with Professor Ron Ulen. Garcia’s accomplishments include first place at the South Texas chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing Competition, finalist for the Sparkling City Light Opera’s “Emerging Artist Competition,” and Texas State University Aria Competition Winner.

He has performed with Texas A&M University-Kingsville, Texas State Opera, and the Utah Festival Opera & Musical Theatre Company. Operatic roles include Julian from “La Verbena de la Paloma,” Rinuccio in “Gianni Schicchi” and Lord Bishop Zumaraga in the World Premiere of “Children of the Sun.”

This summer, he will be performing the roles of Don Basilio in “Le nozze di figaro” and Giles Corey in “The Crucible” with Spotlight on Opera.

The recital will begin at 6 p.m.
