As expected, the teams from San Isidro and Three Rivers were difficult to beat. Pettus, who was led by senior Lane Kruger, came out on top by less than two questions. Lane placed third individually followed by Kirstee Dunlap who finished sixth, Hana Kruger placed ninth, and Josh Davis came in 13th. Pettus finished with a team total of 639 while San Isidro finished in a close second with 628 points. Five points are awarded for each correct answer, and two points are taken off for each incorrect answer, so each question changes the score by seven points.
The team will now travel to the state competition, held at the University of Texas at Austin on May 20 and 21. The five team scores coming out of the regional meets differ by four questions. Pettus sits in the middle of the pack and is less than two questions from having the top score. The teams that will be competing at the state meet are, from Region I, Whitharral with a score of 651; from Region II, Garden City with a score of 623; from Region III, San Augustine a score of 650; and from Region IV, Pettus with a score of 639. The wild card team is San Isidro with a score of 628.
Lane currently sits in 5th place after regional scores. Top scores were 246, 243, 239, 232 and Lanes 229.
