The 38-year-old had spent the last 15 years working for the Beeville Independent School District—until last year, when first she was hired as principal at Pettus Elementary only to be drafted by the PISD board of trustees to be interim superintendent for two months after the former superintendent, Brian Thompson, resigned.
“I am so excited to be working with fifth- and sixth-graders,” she says. “I will be involved with the education of youngsters again.”
As interim PISD superintendent, she says, she was removed from that environment, mostly having to focus on administration and budgets.
Sanchez replaces Jean Blankenship, who now will assist both BISD teachers and principals with math-related projects.
Sanchez earned her master’s degrees in educational leadership and educational administration from Texas A&M University-Kingsville.
