On Tuesday, May 20, the Pettus Calculator Applications Team traveled to the University of Texas at Austin to compete in the 1A state UIL competition.

Schools from 1A through 5A all tested at the same time under the direction of Dr. Bourell, head of the Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Texas and the writer of the calculator applications contest. These tests are the professional gateway to engineering, science and mathematics.

The team consisting of senior Lane Kruger, sophomore Hana Kruger, freshman Kirstee Dunlap and freshman Josh Davis, finished fourth at the state meet. Results from the 2014 UIL season for the team also include first at the Poth Invitational meet, second in the Best of Texas online contest, first in District 28-1A, and first in the Region 4-1A competition.

Lane Kruger led the team throughout the year, finishing first at Poth, first in the Best of Texas, first at the LaGrange practice meet, first in the district meet, third at the regional meet and first at the state meet. Kruger is the first UIL Calculator Applications State Champion for Pettus High School.
