Clemente was born January 25, 1929, in Refugio, Texas to Ysidro & Ynacia Ramon.
In October of 1946, Clemente enlisted in the. U.S. Marine Corps in EI Paso, TX, serving as a Sergeant for the fire brigade and qualifying as a rifle marksman. He served in the Central Pacific Area from 1947 until 1949, until being honorably discharged. Clemente received the good conduct medal, as well as the World War II victory medal. His service continued with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves from 1949 to 1957. In 1955, Clemente joined NAS Chase Field as a driver for the fire department. Retiring in 1979, he proudly completed 33 years of dedicated service to his country. From 1970 to 1975, Clemente was a driver for the Volunteer Ambulance service in Beeville. Staying busy working various jobs, he enjoyed a robust and lively retirement.
Clemente was baptized into Christ on June 25, 1929, and renewed his Pentecostal faith in 1994. Clemente married Lillie Guzman on December 9, 1950, in Beeville, Texas. Together they raised four children. Clemente had a great love for horses and the outdoors, and was very active with the South Texas Trail Riders. He also spent many winters hunting with his son, Ernie. Travel was also a great passion for Clemente. With Lillie at his side, the couple enjoyed numerous vacations joined by their great friends, Israel and Celia Franco.
In 2002, Clemente received an honorary diploma from AC. Jones High School. Clemente was a member of the New Hope Christian Church, a lifetime member of VFW Post #9170, a member of the American Legion Post #274 and the Masonic Lodge.
Preceded in death by his parents, Ysidro & Ynacia; three brothers, Albert “Hoppy” Ramon, Robert Ramon, Alonzo Ramon; and sister, Delores Mikel.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Lillie Ramon; three sons, Clemente Ramon, Jr. of California, Ysidro “Sonny” (Del) Ramon of Corpus Christi, Ernest (Pricella) Ramon of Beeville; and daughter, Rita Ramon (Lisa) of Beeville; three grandchildren, Amanda Ramon Korn of Temple, TX, Ernest James Ramon of Chicago, IL, Albert James Ramon of Austin, TX; two step grandchildren, Abel Ozuna of Corpus Christi, Diana Caberea of Corpus Christi; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Gilbert Ramon of Victoria; numerous nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers: Sonny Ramon, Ernie Ramon, Ernest J Ramon, Albert Ramon, John Ramon and Alonzo Ramon; Honorary pallbearers: Alec Ruiz, Corey Ruiz, Abel Ozuna, Pastor Sal Rincon, B.J. Johnson and members of VFW Post #9170.
Visitation was Wednesday, July 9, 2014, from 5-9 pm with memorial service starting at 7:00 pm at Oak Park Memorial Funeral Chapel. Funeral services were held Thursday, July 10th, at 10:00 am with Pastor Salvador Rincon officiating at Oak Park Funeral Chapel. Burial followed at Ramon Cemetery with full military honors.
