JHS choirs to present annual spring concert

Everett “Mr. Mac” McAulay will direct the A.C. Jones High School choirs in his final act pending retirement (third and final time) on June 1.

The treble choir, mixed ensemble, mixed choir and a small tenor-bass group will present “Golden Oldies” in the A.C. Jones auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Patricia Coffee will accompany the choirs on piano.

Senior soloists to be featured in the concert include Yvonne Alaniz and Courtney Taylor (duet), Tim Shane and Matt Ortega.

The tenor-bass choir will sing “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” from “The Lion King.”

The treble choir will present “Put Your Head on my Shoulder,” “Jailhouse Rock” and “Under the Sea” from “The Little Mermaid.”

The mixed ensemble will sing a spiritual, “Soon and Very Soon,” “The Music of the Night” from “Phantom of the Opera,” and “Over the Rainbow” from “The Wizard of Oz.”

The mixed choir will open and close the program with the national anthem, “Yo Paso Las Noches,” “Unchained Melody” and “The Lord Bless You and Keep You.”

In addition to the singing, UIL and TMEA Scholar awards will be presented, National Choral Award and class medals will be announced, senior choir members and choir officers will be recognized. Students who received first division solo medals at region and who will go on to the state contest at the University of Texas in Austin on June 1 also will be noted.

The public is invited to attend this free concert.
