Salvador D. Medina Jr, M.D., graduated from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston on May 30. He received the Dr. Herman A. Barnett Memorial Award, which is presented for exceptional scholarly performance and for demonstrating clinical proficiency in the fields of anesthesiology and surgery.

Medina will begin his medical residency in anesthesiology during his first year of residency at St. Joseph Medical Center in Houston. He will then spend the next three years at UTMB in Galveston, where he will complete his anesthesia residency.

Medina graduated from A.C. Jones High School in 1998 and received his bachelor of science degree in biology at the University of Texas in San Antonio. He also conducted medical research at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio.

While attending UTMB, he was forced to relocate his family for five months, due to Hurricane Ike. During this time, he continued his education and completed his clinical rotations all over the state of Texas, two of which were in family medicine with Dr. Sam Hogue in Beeville.

Dr. Medina is the son of Salvador and Linda Medina and is the brother of Monica Medina. He is married to Shelley Ramsey of Round Rock and has one daughter, Brooklynn Kylee Medina. He is the grandson of Rosa and the late Domingo Medina and Sarah and the late Francisco Dominguez, all of Beeville. Medina and his family reside in Galveston.
