On Aug. 10 and 11, Beeville Independent School District held a workshop for teachers in their first or second year of teaching with Beeville ISD.

The district is fortunate to have a special grant from the Texas Education Agency called the Beginning Teacher Induction and Mentoring Program. This grant is for school years 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 and it is in the amount of more than $295,000. This grant funds the training and other activities for new teachers and their mentors throughout the year.

This training was conducted by Kathi Ruh from Wisconsin who has worked with the Just Ask Publishing Company for 20 years. The training focused on effective teaching strategies and how to be an effective teacher from the first day of school. Additional training with Kathi Ruh and district staff will be held throughout the year.

Nancy Jones, assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction, said, “We are excited to have 14 teachers who will be teaching for the first time this year and 16 teachers with only one year of experience. These new teachers bring a lot of excitement and energy to our instructional program and I look forward to getting to know them throughout the year.”
