The Texas Department of State Health Services has extended the deadline for students to meet new school vaccination requirements to Oct. 1st.

The extension applies only to three vaccines: Meningococcal, tetanus/diphtheria/acellular pertussis, and varicella.

“I am glad that the department recognizes the importance of the students starting their school year on time, and not penalizing some students for certain vaccines being unavailable,” State Rep. Yvonne Gonzalez Toureilles said. “However, I encourage parents to vaccinate their children at the earliest opportunity to prevent illnesses and absenteeism.”

All other vaccinations must be up to date before a child may attend public schools.
