Each year Gamma Omicron awards grants to female high school graduates who are planning on becoming educators. The chapter also gives a grant to a female college student enrolled in an education program. May graduates Kelsey Schendel of Beeville and Kelsey Neiswender of Karnes City were this year’s recipients of $400 grants. At the conclusion of the auction, a beautiful lap quilt crafted by Tammy Rands was raffled off. The winning ticket was held by Marie Ortiz-Fernandez.
The Moreno Middle School Library in Beeville was the site where 35 members and two guests gathered for the chapter meeting. Prior to the start of the activities, they enjoyed a delicious breakfast buffet prepared by the Beeville B members.
After President Jan Anderson called the meeting to order, Marie Meadows presented the meditative thought for the day and Mary Claire Luce led the members in the pledge to the flag. Membership Chairman Betty Thornton recognized the members with November birthdays, including Lisa Latcham, who was celebrating that day. In the drawing for the door prize, Mary Claire Luce was the lucky recipient.
Area IV Coordinator Beverly Richard of Rosenberg brought greetings from the Texas State Organization. Using the BELL theme of State President Vicky Davis, Beverly rang four bells, reminding the chapter that as Delta Kappa Gamma members they are to Believe, Engage, Learn and Lead.
With regard to her own theme and goal as area coordinator for the next two years, Beverly encouraged Gamma Omicron Chapter to seek out prospective members following her recipe for “Membership Mix.” She had created a delicious concoction of pretzels, Lucky Charms, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, dried cranberries, M&M’s and mixed nuts. There was much laughter as she told the chapter what member characteristics were represented by the different food items she had mixed together. Beverly then donated a container of her “Membership Mix” along with a cookbook to the auction.
At the conclusion of the business meeting, Program Chairman Denese Martin rang a bell for the auction to start, and the fun of competing for favorite items began. When the auction ended, Marie Ortiz-Fernandez led the members in singing the DKG song to close the meeting.
