Two Beeville girls win in state scholarship program in SA

Over the Thanksgiving weekend, Sydnie Maguire and Christina Perez traveled to San Antonio to represent Beeville at the Distinguished Youth of Texas Scholarship and Recognition program held at the Marriott River Center.

The girls participated in three days of competition that included a judge’s interview worth 25 percent, personality projection worth 15 percent, a review of their scholastic record worth 30 percent and a review of their activities and service in school and community worth 30 percent.

More than 220 girls from across the state of Texas competed.

Both girls from Beeville competed for the Young Miss of Texas title.

Sydnie, daughter of Scott and Susan Maguire. is in 7th grade at Moreno Middle School.

She was chosen as first runner-up overall, received an academic medallion for placing as a top five finalist, received a state qualification award and placed second in the optional event of essay writing.

Christina, daughter of Victor and Daisy Hinojosa, is a 5th-grade student at First Baptist Church School.

She was chosen as a top 10 finalist and received a merit award, a state qualification award and placed first in the optional event of scrapbook.
