St. Mary’s Academy will be hosting its third annual Casino Night this Friday, Feb. 12, from 7 p.m. to midnight at the Bee County Coliseum Expo Center.

The Casino Night is St. Mary’s annual fundraiser to support extracurricular activities for the school. The night starts with a steak dinner, refreshments and music when the doors open at 7 p.m. At 8:30 p.m., the games will begin with all the usual table games including blackjack, Texas Hold’em, Wheel of Fortune, craps, roulette, etc.

Last year the event featured family style poker where the player could call their own games. This year the “family room” will have dominoes in addition to the card games. A Texas Hold’em tournament will be held during the event. In addition to bragging rights and door prizes, the top three players of the Texas Hold’em Tournament will receive spectacular trophies.

Mrs. Ross Brown, assistant principal for St. Mary’s, predicts “this will be the best Casino Night ever. It’s so great that Elvis is coming to enjoy the event.”

The Elvis Mrs. Brown is speaking of is the world-renowned Elvis impersonator James Wages. Wages, who has recently been performing for Carnival Cruise Lines, will be in town to celebrate Mardi Gras at the Expo Center. He will be performing a set of songs during the evening. Mrs. Brown enthused that she already had her favorite musician, Joe Simonson, providing entertainment and now she has Elvis too!

The Expo Center will shimmer and sparkle with the blues, greens, reds and golds of Mardi Gras. The top three prizes are a trip to Las Vegas, a gambling trip and a weekend at the Sandcastle Condo’s in Port Aransas. In addition to these prizes, Mrs. Brown said there are a number of fantastic door prizes that people can win with their gambling tickets.

Mrs. Brown said there are a few tickets available if people are interested in attending the event. She warns that the tickets are selling fast and were completely sold out last year.
